Flood Recovery Update + Quilts of Valor Retreat Details

Dear Golden Anchor Quilting Community,

The last several days have been all about demolition. The Servepro crew has been hard at work tearing up floors, cutting walls apart, and preparing the shop for a full rebuild. They had hoped to wrap up the demolition yesterday, but we hit a small snag when they discovered a different type of construction along the long wall we share with GameStop. This means a bit more intense demo work, including the removal of some built-in cabinets in the studio to access and replace that wall.

Through it all, the crew has been incredibly kind and grateful — especially for the well-stocked snack table we’ve been keeping for them. (It’s true — Louisa’s Italian heritage practically requires feeding everyone!) And despite the unexpected challenges, they’ve consistently thanked us for being so positive and understanding through this process.

The great news is that the front of the shop is now set up and ready for in-person shopping!  We are planning to reopen for shopping on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, with our normal business hours:
Tuesday - Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturday - Sunday: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

We are SO excited to welcome you all back into the shop! It's definitely a condensed space, and it’s a little different than what we’re used to, but it’s already starting to grow on us — and we can’t wait to hear what you think of the new setup!

Quilts of Valor Retreat - The Quilts Must Go On!

In the middle of all of this chaos, we keep reminding ourselves: The quilts must go on! And that’s exactly what we’re doing with our upcoming Quilts of Valor Retreat, happening March 28-30, 2025.

The Valley News stopped by on Friday to interview us about the event, and we’re so grateful to them for helping us spread the word!  (we are still hoping the Eagle Times will come see us...if you have a contact there, please share!)

Here’s everything you need to know about the retreat:
Registration is still open, and there are still sewing spots available!
Registration is FREE — thanks to sponsorships and donations from businesses, organizations, and incredible people in our community.
We will provide as many meals as possible throughout the weekend, also thanks to community sponsors and donations.
The quilt kits and donated fabric we’ve set aside for this retreat were not impacted by the flood — yay for small miracles!

The retreat is being held at The White River Junction VA medical center in the Hero's Building NOT here at the shop!

Sewing space opens at 8:00 AM on Friday, March 28, and stays open until 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 30. You can leave your space set up all weekend.
There will be prizes, fun activities, and plenty of good company throughout the retreat.
Our goal is to make 100 quilt tops that will be presented to Veterans in August!

How you can still help:
- We still need donations of quilt backings (minimum of 4 yards of regular quilting cotton or 2 yards of wide back fabric).
- We are still looking for batting donations.
- After the retreat, we’ll need longarm quilting help to get all 100 tops quilted by the end of June.
- We are also accepting nominations for Veterans who have not previously received a Quilt of Valor. Please make sure the Veteran is aware of the nomination before submitting their name.

If you’d like to donate backing, batting, or longarm services, or money towards these purchases please reply to this email or stop by the shop after March 11!

 **A Quick Shop Update**

While we still don’t have a solid timeline for the full rebuild of our classroom, bathroom, studio, office, and sales floor, we do know this:
We will recover.

We will reopen fully.

We will keep serving this incredible community for many, many years to come.

In the meantime, we are incredibly grateful for every act of kindness that has come our way — the time spent helping us pack, the encouraging messages, the food, the hugs, the online orders, and the constant outpouring of love.

This setback is absolutely setting us up for a comeback — and we know that with all of you behind us, that comeback will be nothing short of amazing.

We can't wait to see your smiling faces in person again starting Tuesday, March 11 — and we’re looking forward to hearing what you think about our “cozy condensed” sales floor.

With endless gratitude,
Louisa, Darren, and the Crew at Golden Anchor Quilting
