Game week, shop update, and March retreat info!

Hello Beautiful Golden Anchor Quilting Community!

As the weather cools down, and heads towards winter, we are staying late at the shop to get everyone’s holiday quilts done in time! We’ve been planning in the background to have a wonderfully full class calendar for the first quarter of next year! We have a number of class series we are considering. We will be sending out a poll soon to see which 4 all of you would enjoy the most! These series will meet monthly, with options to attend as few as one, up to all 12, with discounts the more classes you attend! We are thinking about things like paper piecing, strip pieced quilts, fat quarter projects, a dessert roll series (based on a book of dessert roll quilts), stash busting projects, sampler blocks, table toppers, and embroidery/ITH projects! If you have a suggestion for a monthly theme for us to add to the calendar, let us know! We will be sending out the poll sometime next week, and then making final plans for all of the projects for each of the series. Then folks can pick which classes they want to attend, and enjoy discounts all year!

This past week at the shop we wrapped up our scrappy flying geese doll quilt (or wall hanging or table topper) with some of our graduates from All Includsive learn to quilt from this past March. These ladies have come so far in their quilting journeys in less than a year! We are so proud of them!

(We will figure out how to send a photo with our next newsletter we can all enjoy the beauty!)

Besty also finished her Tippy Tote, we look forward to seeing the rest of the Tippy Totes finished this week!

This week we will share shop news, upcoming classes, a quilt of the week, draw our weekly $10 gift card winner for folks who paid with cash or check, teach you how to make a fabric cord keeper, and draw a winner for the sample we sew on this week’s broadcast. We will send out the link on Tuesday!

We have been having a lot of fun with the ladies who have started to come regularly to open sew! It has become a wonderful and supportive day of the week with lots of laughter and friendship!

FRIDAY

This week we get to see the culmination of The Beach House quilts! We will share photos of these beauties ASAP!

SATURDAY

We look forward to seeing our T-shirt quilts assembled, as well as finishing up our Tippy Totes! It will be a busy day in the classroom for sure, but completely worth it!

SUNDAY

We will be making pillow cases at 10:30! We are excited that we have a youngster joining us this time! He’s made his first quilt, and now is going to make a pillow case to match! There is still room in the class, come join the fun!

Now that you know what’s up this week,  we want to help you look a little further out in your calendars and see what you will enjoy!

Sunday, December 1 we have the ever popular CrissCross Apron class with Lynne L! The shop will be closed to the public, just folks enrolled in the class will be here! You get a private shop day and a class! What a bargain! Class includes the pattern and instructions. To make the apron it takes 1 yard of two coordinating fabrics (or the apron can be designed to be for two different seasons)! These make great gifts, and you will finish the apron in class!

Two more opportunities for pillow cases in December, Thursday the 5th at 5:30pm or Friday the 6th at 10:30am!

Sunday, December 8, Rick from Absolute Edge Mobile Sharpening will be back in the shop! Ready to sharpen your scissors or pinking shears! You can drop pairs off for sharpening any time between now and December 8, or bring them in on the day of the event. Rick only charges $10 per pair, and can sharpen while you shop!

Tuesday, December 10 is our monthly binding party! Bring something you need to bind, and get some tips and tricks and some social sewing time in!

Thursday, December 12 is the last 12 months of gifts class for this year. This series is designed to teach a different project each month, which you complete in class, and can make more of for gifts throughout the year. Class happens at 10:30am and 4:30pm! We will be making fabric bags that expand like a t-shirt plastic bag, with an option to embroider an initial onto the bags!

We are making progress in planning our first annual Quilts of Valor mini retreat! The space is reserved, the planning crew have met and assigned jobs, and we will be opening registration sometime this week! Here is what we know so far:

The space is reserved at the WRJ VA hospital for folks to come set up on March 28 and stay until Sunday March 30, 2025.

Registration will be FREE!

There will be two options for registration: folks can register to sew during the retreat or register to support the sewists with pressing, rotary cutting, running, hydrating, and helping with food. Due to space, we are limiting the number of sewists to 50, and the number of helpers to 50, for a total of 100 folks at the event. We will have wait list options in the registration process.

We will also be looking for local youngsters who would like to earn some community service hours, by helping us load everything into the conference room on Thursday, and Friday, and also help bring things back out on Sunday.

We will have goodie bags for our sewists, helpers, and community service volunteers!

We are looking for some wonderful prizes for folks to win for lots of different reasons!

We are seeking Longarm quilters who will be willing to help us get the tops created at the retreat quilted in time for a gathering in May where we will ask folks to come help us get them all bound and ready for a Quilts of Valor presentation in the summer.

We will work to keep registration and participation free by asking other local businesses to sponsor the event or make donations for fabric, batting, food, and other supplies needed to make this event a huge success!
