Quilty Confidence Series: Panels, flat borders, and mitered borders - 10:30am - 2:30pm

If you’ve ever finished a quilt top and felt frustrated by wavy borders, uneven edges, or corners that just don’t look as polished as you hoped, you’re not alone. If you’ve ever fallen in love with a panel until you tried to square it up, this class is designed to change that.

In this Quilty Confidence class, we focus on helping you feel more in control of your quilt construction so your projects come together smoothly and look polished when they’re finished.

We’ll begin by working with a large panel, learning how to properly square it up, and measure and add borders so they lay flat and square. You’ll gain confidence in preventing stretch and distortion, and understand why borders sometimes misbehave — and how to fix it. This part of the class can be brought to our next quilty confidence series class on straight line quilting to bring it to completion.

Next, we’ll explore smaller panel blocks and how to sash them together cleanly and consistently. This portion of the class helps you build confidence with layout, spacing, and accurate piecing so your quilt tops come together more easily. These pieces can be combined later to make a baby quilt or small lap robe.

Finally, we’ll focus on mitered borders — a beautiful technique that gives projects a polished, professional-looking finish. For this portion of the class, you’ll square up a fat quarter feature print and add a 4” mitered border using coordinating fabric. This creates a small table topper-style project while giving you the chance to practice mitered borders in a manageable, confidence-building way.

By the end of class, you’ll not only understand how to work with panels and borders — you’ll feel more confident making your quilts lay flat, look square, and come together beautifully.

This class is part of our Quilty Confidence Series and may be taken independently or taken as a full series.
