Sergers can feel intimidating—but they don’t have to be. In Power Serge: Serger 101, we’ll break down how a serger works and why it can become one of the most useful tools in your sewing room.

Often called “the microwave of the sewing room,” a serger is fast, efficient, and incredibly versatile once you understand it. In this class, Dawna will guide students through threading methods, needle and thread selection, and the most commonly used serger stitches—plus when and why to use them.

With years of experience teaching and using sergers, Dawna has truly heard every possible question and scenario. This class is designed to remove fear, build confidence, and help students understand how their serger can support both garment and quilting projects.

This class also serves as a launch pad for an upcoming serger-focused series, giving students a solid foundation for future technique and project-based classes.

Machines

• Students may bring their own serger

  • If bringing your own serger, please plan to drop your machine off the Friday before class so that Dawna can ensure familiarity with your machine prior to class day to maximize class time

• Classroom sergers are available to rent for $25

Class is limited to 4 students to ensure dedicated attention and hands-on success.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us at least 72 hours in advance by call or text, there is a waitlist, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds (only credits) are provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance.
If we need to cancel due to low enrollment (fewer than 3 students 72 hours prior), or for weather-related reasons, we will offer a rescheduled session or store credit.
