Step into the world of DIY fashion with the Debbie Tote, a confident beginner-friendly bag pattern that’s as fun to sew as it is to carry. In this one-day make-and-take class, you’ll sew a stylish tote bag with a curved front pocket—and even stitch a matching zipper pouch to tuck inside!

You’ll learn bag construction techniques that will serve you well in future projects: boxed corners, lined interiors, curve handling, topstitching, and how to add structure for a professional finish. The bonus zipper pouch is a perfect intro to basic zipper skills in a low-pressure way.

Whether you're brand new to sewing or ready to build your confidence with a structured project, you’ll leave with a functional, giftable, and totally fabulous bag set!

Materials List

You’ll need to bring:

• Main Bag Exterior – ½ yard of sturdy quilting cotton or canvas

• Curved Pocket Fabric – ¼ yard

• Bag Lining – ½ yard

• Straps – Use exterior fabric OR bring ½ yard of a coordinating print

• Fusible Fleece or Foam Stabilizer – ½ yard

• Zipper Pouch Fabric – We will use scraps from your bag, and pick zippers together on class day

• 9" zipper for pouch

• Optional: Matching thread

• Basic sewing tools (rotary cutter, pins/clips, seam ripper, fabric scissors)

We’ll provide:

• Sewing machines (or bring your own)

• Use of classroom tools, irons, and thread

• Printed instructions and hands-on guidance all day

Skills Taught

• Working with fusible stabilizer

• Constructing and attaching curved pockets

• Making and attaching tote bag straps

• Creating boxed corners

• Sewing and turning a lined zipper pouch

• Confident topstitching techniques

Skill Level: Beginner+ / Confident Beginner
Students should be able to sew a straight seam and use a rotary cutter independently. Great for first-time bag makers!

Cancellation Policy

Please notify us at least 72 hours in advance if you need to cancel. If we can fill your spot, we’ll issue a refund. Otherwise, your fee will be converted into store credit.

Classes with fewer than 3 students may be rescheduled or canceled. Weather-related cancellations will be credited or rescheduled.
